Brooklyn Tea Party in support of #OWS

Many of us in the FEAST community have been closely following the events of the Occupy Wall Street Movement. Though the protest finds its symbolic power in occupying strategic urban sites across the country, they have highlighted issues that effect many of us, regardless of how close we are to those epicenters. Growing inequality, the home foreclosure crisis, skyrocketing student debt, unequal access to health care, and corrupt political processes are problems that threaten the fabric of our economic and social security. We’ve been inspired by Occupy Wall Street’s assertion that these problems are not inevitable and that they are not without real solutions. Those of us who participate in events like FEAST and CSA programs know that we have abundant local resources to draw on, the most important of which is each other.

Brooklyn Tea Party

in support of Occupy Wall Street

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Join us this Wednesday, November 9th from 7:30pm – 9:30pm
for a Tea Party in Support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
This event will be an opportunity for us to convene for a town hall of sorts, to learn about the protest from some of its active members and to engage in a dialogue about the questions and provocations raised by the movement. We’ll provide tea and cookies. We hope you will bring your opinions and ideas as we brainstorm ways to apply the energy generated by the occupiers to the issues we face in our own communities.
Wednesday, November 9th, 7:30 – 9:30 pm
Church of the Messiah, Greenpoint, Brooklyn
129 Russell Street – Brooklyn NY 11222
Please “Attend” on Facebook so we can make sure to have enough refreshments for everyone. Hope to see you there!
We would also like to use the event as a way to lend a hand to those who have spent the last weeks in Zuccotti park, and who plan to stay there through the cold winters we are all familiar with. They have issued a list of items that will help them to stay warm and protected from the elements. If you could donate any of the below items, it would help to sustain what we believe is an important movement toward empowering everyday people to making positive changes in their world.
